Wood Privacy Fencing

Solid, handsome privacy fences that give your backyard back — built board by board to stand up to East Tennessee weather.

Nothing turns a backyard into a private retreat quite like a well-built wood privacy fence. It blocks the view, softens road noise, keeps kids and dogs in, and adds real warmth and value to a home. All American Fence has built privacy fence across East Tennessee and North Georgia for over 26 years, and we know how to make one that stays straight, tight, and good-looking for the long haul.

Privacy fence styles we build

Dog-ear is the classic: full-height pickets with the top corners trimmed, giving a clean, familiar line at a great price. Board-on-board overlaps the pickets so there are no gaps even after the wood dries and shrinks — true, total privacy and a heavier, premium look from both sides. Scalloped and convex tops add a gentle curve along the run for a more decorative feel without giving up privacy.

We build 6-foot privacy as standard and can go taller where code allows, and we can cap and trim the fence for an even more finished look.

Cedar, pine, and building it to last

Wood choice matters. Pressure-treated pine is the durable, budget-friendly standard — treated to resist rot and insects and ideal for posts and rails. Cedar is naturally rot- and bug-resistant, more dimensionally stable, and ages to a beautiful silver-grey (or holds a stain wonderfully) — the upgrade pick for a showcase fence.

Whatever the wood, the build is what makes it last: posts set deep in concrete, proper gaps for drainage and airflow, hot-dipped galvanized or coated fasteners that will not bleed rust down your pickets, and gates framed with anti-sag bracing so they still swing true in year ten.

Care that keeps it looking new

A wood fence rewards a little attention. We recommend letting a new fence dry out for a season, then sealing or staining it to lock out moisture and hold its color. Reapply every couple of years and a privacy fence will look sharp for decades. Prefer no upkeep at all? Ask us about vinyl privacy as an alternative.
